As you get older, your hands lose volume, fat and elasticity. The fatty layer disappears, so the skin is more translucent and shrivalled, and you see structures like bones, tendons and veins.
Rejuvenation of the hand is a procedure where your own fat is used to “fill in” the hollow, collapsed areas on the back of the hand. This fat is also used to a help hide the prominent veins that also so often contribute to an elderly appearing hand. In many cases, the quality of the skin on the back of the hand also improves and the skin becomes less thin, brown spots fade and broken capillaries improve.
Hand Fat Grafting
This procedure is performed under local anesthesia with sedation but sometimes general anesthesia is employed. The technique involves removing or harvesting excess fat from around your mid-abdomen or thighs through a tiny incision. Even if you are thin, there is usually adequate fat to successfully rejuvenate both hands.
After the fat is removed, it is prepared through a series of steps that preserve the stem cells present in the fat. Great care is taken to ensure the fat is healthy and able to maximally survive when transplanted. The fat is then transferred to the back of your hand by small syringes and small needles. The procedure usually takes 1-2 hours.
